The HP Omen 17 is the HP’s latest and greatest heavy gaming laptop. It is not something to take with you everywhere you go. It is a serious bit of kit with a GTX 1078G-sync 75 Hertz ideas panel and an i5 processor. The laptop comes in a 17 inch form factor and the overall design of the unit looks pretty good and it is very robust as well. There’s not any real flex to the has like a carbon fiber effect on the top of the unit.
It is easy to open it with one hand and the hinge is really strong and it just makes it perfect for a great experience. The keyboard is backlit but the backlight isn’t very bright and it is a red backlight. An IPS display is just what you’re going to get with rich colors and wider viewing angles as opposed to something like a TN panel. HP Omen 17 got a 75 Hertz refresh rate.
On the right hand side you’ve got the power jack next to Ethernet socket, then mini DisplayPort and then 2 USB 3.1 and then we’ve also got an SD reader as well. Moving towards the left hand side it got another USB 3.1 which is not type C. It has two jacks for audio the headphone and the microphone jack but these are slightly noisy and especially with the microphone jack. Using a stereo headsets and analog stereo headset it picks up an awful lot of static in the recordings.
The battery life is around two to four hours depending on what you want to do. This a much portable computer then you are going to get a moderate amount of battery life. The keyboard and the trackpad on the machine isn’t the best out there but it’s certainly going to get you through pretty much all situations.
The screen though is a bit of a mixed bag because it’s an 8-bit panel and it looks great. It’s got wide viewing angles and it doesn’t matter what you’re viewing on it. It always looks pretty good and it’s 1080p. For performance it is equipped with an i5 quad-core processor with a GTX 1070 with some serious horsepower. It can drive basically any games at Ultra settings and it is quite impressive and compared to the last generation of laptops.
Out there people want something that is more portable with something that has a GTX 1070 and smaller bodies. For this configuration it got 8 gigabytes of RAM that should be more than enough for pretty much all applications and it comes with a 1 TB SSD. The PCLE SSD has read and write speeds exceeding 1000 megabytes per second which is more than anyone should ever need.
